Sqlexpress vista authorised

Ok, here goes re my experience with my app and installing SqlExpress as a click once app. I have two remaining issues, outlined below:. The installation went smoothly, I even got a warning message as Sql Express deployed that there were known incompatibility issues with SqlExpress and Vista.

The message links took me to a 'Fix' which told me to install SP2. After installation, my app deployed automatically, which it does not do on XP until the user starts it. This seemed a bit strange. I installed SP2, which is a bit tricky, and would be especially so for a novice, which describes my users. I closed a few Network looking services and was able to finish the install, But I need to know for my users how to turn off the Windows NT service.

Alternatively, if I choose the button to "Ignore" the running services, will that affect the install? This appears to be a permissions issue. Here is the error message:. SecurityException: The source was not found, but some or all event logs could not be searched.

Inaccessible logs: Security. SourceExists String source at PaperForm. OnLoad EventArgs e at System. OnCreateControl at System. CreateControl at System. Can someone tell me how to get around this? Thanks to all for your help. It does appear that installation of SP2 corrects my app's Vista incompatibilities. I don't really understand the message you got during installation of SP2 because that should be an automated process, you shouldn't have to shutdown any services as they would be shutdown automatically by the installer.

There are two solutions for this issue when using ClickOnce installation:. The problem with the Event Log doesn't have anything to do with SQL Server; it appears that you have written some code in your application that attempts to write to or read from the Security Event Log. You'd need to post question about this either in a language appropriate VS forum for the language you're using or possibly in a Windows newgroup related to using the Event Logs.

I have some limited experience with Event Logs and the exception you've provided suggests that Event Source for the security log is not available to you. This does not surprise me as the Security Event Log is kept locked down and is typically reserved for use by Windows to log security issues.

Only a Windows admnistrator has the rights to create an Event Source, which you would need to write to the Security log or to read from the Security Log. In general, I'd suggest that you use the Application Event Log because that log is accecible to all users.

If you feel you need the Security Event Log, you'll need to follow-up with the Windows documentation to figure out how to either manifest your applicaton and how to create an Event Source that will allow your application to write to the Security Event Log.

Hi, Mike, thanks for your response. I saved some of the SP2 install screen shots, and if needed I can send them to you. Regarding the event log, I am just trying to check for an application log and create it if it does not exist. The class is System.
