This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread. Tuesday, October 18, AM. Good Luck. Friday, October 21, PM. Saturday, October 15, PM. Tuesday, October 25, AM. I am running into the same issue with a Bank Web-Site not allowing IE9, it will work when I use the developer tool to use as IE8 but i would like to know how I can make that permanent as it resolves back to ie9 mode after reopening IE. Thursday, October 27, PM. Monday, November 7, AM. I was just able to uninstall ie9 using the update view even though it is a brand new computer.

Sunday, November 20, PM. Went and removed IE9 using same process as TrekDozers. Re-opened internet explorer and it opens fine automatically with ie8 version 8. Didn't have to download IE Just my experiences.

Tuesday, December 27, PM. IE8 was never on the system. I am puzzled by your answer as none of the 4 alternatives to click in your answer seem to be applicable to the situation that IE8 was never on the system. Saturday, February 11, AM. Tuesday, February 14, PM. IE9 can be installed in 2 ways..

Search for that phrase under start Search wait for a few minutes and Look for IE9. Quote: And on a news site, it's always suspicious to have a new account agree with what's being criticized, because it always almost ends up being some sort of PR team. Dude, the technical forums are one of the major ways people find out about the Ars forums. It's extremely common for people's first post to be here because they discovered a fix they were looking for posted here.

Compatibility mode didn't work. Thanks, aeshaw. I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one to have the issue. And Ars is a great place. Searching technical issues is how I found this place, too. Once I saw all the great data here, and after it has saved my butt a number of times, I'm glad I'm here. I ran into a problem, couldn't find an answer, and what Microsoft said wasn't working on the Dell machine I was on. Usually, Ars has the solutions I'm search for readily available, and since I wasn't able to find this topic when I searched or it, I made something new.

I really was unable to follow the instructions in that Microsoft document, as it didn't work. Once I figured out what the poster was saying, and after I did it twice, I typed up the document for my own internal fixit-documentation, and then I thought other people might benefit from it.

So I posted it up. Hopefully, this is enough proof that I'm not a bot, or a shill. If you like, I can provide further documentation that I am an actual human, not selling anything, and just trying to be helpful.

May I offer you a friendship waffle? Edited: Spelling. Entegy wrote: Nom nom nom What part didn't work may I ask? You only get the message from Microsoft saying that "internet explorer 8 is not supported on this operating system" message. Until I deselected it, then uninstalled, then re-checked the 8 option would it allow the IE8 to actually run and work.

I'm getting in four Dell boxes next week. I'll try it again, just by deselecting the option. I'll let you know how it goes. See, you can't install it. You can't install the version of IE Windows shipped with. That's how it went on my Dell boxes and every box I've worked on for uninstalling IE9 so, my own and a few friends. So when you get your boxes, try my method on one and see if IE8 just comes back on its own. I know this is an old thread almost 9 months since last post. In case anyone else reads this far Thank you for finding this resolution.

If you know of a way around this, please enlighten us. Wayniak… Follow these steps:. In both cases, the OEM install usually comes with updates, hot fixes, service packs, etc. They are in a little bit different place… but they are there! You will have to run setup wizard for IE 8 when you openthe browser back up the first time. And I did have to do this twice on one machine but it did work successfully the second time around.

You do have to remember now, when you run Windows Updates the next time, to make sure you mark the update. That should do the trick! This has worked perfectly for me each time I have come across the issue. Good luck!! It would help if I read your directives more carefully. The tricky part for me was that the option to turn the feature on or off is not the same as uninstalling it from the 'Installed Updates'.

Once I did that, it rolled back to IE8. I still think Microsoft should make the download available for IE8 for Windows 7. I don't like IE9 at all I've been rolling them back where possible or switching them to Firefox. Office Office Exchange Server. Not an IT pro?
